Recipe for Becoming

If you're anything like me, you've been chasing the perfect guide. That step-by-step manual that guarantees success—something to take the guesswork out of the change you so desperately want. A map that navigates around every obstacle and delivers you, unscathed, to your goal. Furthermore, a guide that will take the weight of the responsibility off your shoulders if you fail to obtain the grail.

I hate to break it to you, but that recipe doesn’t exist.

I looked for it too. Trust me, I looked hard. And for a long time, I thought I’d failed because I couldn’t find it to save my life. The truth? That map, the one you’re hoping for, would only let you off the hook. Deep down, you know the weight is yours to carry. Your map to draw.

Now, I’ve found a recipe. Not the one I wanted. It surely isn’t the recipe you wanted either, but it’s the one that saved me.

This recipe is different. It’s harder to accept but far closer to what you truly need. This isn’t a physical map; it’s a mental one. Seven steps: simple, but far from easy. And yes, you’ll stumble. You’ll fall flat. But we’re here to shine a light, to guide you, and to help you draw the map—giving you tools you don’t have yet. Still, your journey is yours alone. No one’s coming to save you. The results are yours to earn—or to abandon.

So, you still want the recipe? Here it is.

Step 1: Have an unflinching conversation with yourself about where you are. What brought you here? Why are you no longer the person you want to be? Dig deep into the discomfort of your current state. Only by facing this truth can you understand the why behind your need for change.

Step 2: What do you want to achieve? Be specific. Vague or unrealistic goals will only set you up for failure. Imagine telling a GPS to take you to “somewhere better”—it doesn’t work that way. Know where you’re headed, and make it clear.

Step 3: Write down your reason for staying the course. Not just any reason—the reason. The one that will pull you forward when quitting feels easier. When setbacks come, and they will, return to this “why”. It’s your fuel—it burns bright and long.

Step 4: Now that you’ve identified your why, it’s time to confront what’s holding you back. What habits, behaviours, or mindsets are sabotaging your progress? Be ruthless in identifying them. Then, commit to replacing them with actions that align with your goals.

Step 5: Give yourself a clear timeline. Don’t just whisper it to yourself—write it down, say it out loud, and tell someone who will hold you accountable. If you fail to meet it, create a consequence that makes failure uncomfortable. Growth doesn’t happen in comfort.

Step 6: No journey succeeds without a plan, but achieving your goal requires more than a plan—it demands a how. Identify the skills to learn, the practices to stay consistent, and the daily actions required. Be honest about your gaps and humble enough to seek help. A clear roadmap turns ambition into action.

Step 7: The perfect moment doesn’t exist. Don’t wait for Monday. Don’t wait for the stars to align or the perfect storm to sail—you’ll be docked forever. Act now. Start with what you have, even if you don’t feel ready; imperfect action is better than no action.

Once you’re in motion, take time to reflect: What’s working? What’s not? Adjust your plan based on real-world feedback and move forward again. The formula is simple: act, reflect, reassess, and refine. Every time you loop back, you’ll be stronger, smarter, and closer to your goal.

The steps may sound straightforward, but they won’t feel that way. Change is uncomfortable—it burns, destroys, and forces you to face truths you’d rather avoid. You’ll want to stop. You’ll want to rationalise why this isn’t the time—but the only time is now. In this discomfort lies real growth. The questions that arise from following the recipe are the soil for the person you’ve always wanted to become, and the hard conversations will be the water that washes away the dirt, revealing you.

We are here to help you tend your crop—ask, converse, and cast away the old dirt and rust of outdated habits.

You wanted something to follow. You asked for the recipe—here it is. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. The only question is: are you brave enough to stick to it?

Real growth doesn’t come from finding the perfect map—it comes from drawing your own.

We are here to lend you a pen if you need one.
